Women’s Fellowship: Empowerment and Celebration of Womanhood

Epilogue: The following article was originally written about three weeks ago but was kept in the drafts folder for unavoidable reasons, however, the author decided NOT to change or update the original article to preserve the emotions conveyed in the entry.

Last Sunday was great. Warren and I were practically dragging our feet on our way to church, he was even vocal about being excited attending Sunday service. We were in such a hurry to get there that we hailed a taxi to speed up our travel time. We were just a little disappointed because the preaching ended early, but, oh well… The message is what’s important, and how it impacted on our hearts.

Anyway, I was invited to the Ladies’ Fellowship and I tell you, it was fun! We were all there, all the ladies of the church – single, married and widowed alike.ist2_3909368_funky_garden.jpg

Well, the Ladies Fellowship is like our own little support group in church. Headed by Sis. Deng (Pastor Larry’s better-half) and Sis. Vangie, it aims to uplift and empower Christian women through Scriptural lessons, open forums, assessments, projects and specialized programs.

It was actually my first time to attend, but I heard they have been doing studies of their own and one of the books they read to help them succeed in their vision is Elizabeth George’s A Woman After God’s Own Heart. I haven’t read the book yet myself but I am looking forward to getting a copy soon.

In this day anist2_5075124_abandoned_hope.jpgd age, it is quite a feat to celebrate and empower women. What with all the abuse going on around us, environmental, physiological, psychological, physical and spiritual issues abound and haunt women everywhere. Poverty, especially in the Philippines, is a gnawing disease that infects and affects women. Domestic violence has spiralled up and has since become one of the most common crimes. And then, there is prostitution, incidences of rape and molestation, child trafficking and a multitude of other societal diseases and menaces that primarily involve women, if not children, trampling on what dignity they have left.

It is perhaps because of this that the woman of this century has become more aggressive in her quest for a respectable place in society and feminism was born and contorted in different forms, some scandalous to an extent.

The Disciples of Christ Community Church, through the Ladies Fellowship, is trying to take the mindset of their female church members to a higher and biblical level through Scriptural education which aims to help them grow spiritually and morally without sacrificing their roles in the society and in the household as written in the Scriptures. It is the church’s own way of protecting, celebrating and empowering the women of today.ist2_5185434_cross_burst.jpg

DCCC is a small, humble church located in Caloocan City which loves to shepherd lost lambs above all. If you feel that you are lost and that you hunger for the True and Living God’s Word, then DCCC will be very happy to have you into their fold.

Note: For more information about this group or the church, please feel free to leave a comment in this blog. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
