Are We To Walk as Jesus Walked?

I had an argument one time with a friend
he is saying that God wants us to be rich in this world
I said, if God wants us to be rich, then why didn’t he made the apostles rich in their time
are we any better than them?
and he responded
no, you got it all wrong
that is their calling
and ours is different

many people would think that we are not to become like the apostles
suffer the way they did
preached the way they did
but no
Peter says this
“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. ” 1 Peter 2:20
now he is talking to all Christians
afterall
that is why we are called Christians
because we are to become like Christ
we are to walk as He walked
otherwise, why else should we be called Christians?
