After His Own Heart

Blogging Truths in a Deceptive World

There’s a Battle? Where? Wha…?

Written by Warren |Posted on October 31, 2008 | Comments

its weekend and I feel tensed already.

In a few hours, we will be visiting my mom.

Negative thoughts would roam around my head. Thinking “o boy, we’re gonna have a bloody debate again” she’s gonna continue on convincing me to stop following Christ and follow the money. I feel like we’re gonna have another bloody fight. As if I’m being prepared for today’s lunch.

After tonight’s battle, there’s no guarantee that I’d be getting comfort from our church. Yet, all these no-guarantee things only make me depend more on God simply because there’s no where else for me to turn to. I think the past months that we are experiencing difficulties – the losing of money, jobs, friends, families- is all for us to depend on God alone. Like He is the source of it all. Like if we need anything, and we know we can’t afford them, we just pray to God.

Also the past months of battles made us rely on God more because we didn’t know if there’s going to be a battle tomorrow or later. We don’t know. We just noticed that being a Christian is like being a soldier and this world we’re living in is our battleground. We don’t know if there’ll be bombs hitting us in a few moments so all we do is prepare ourselves -equip ourselves, read the Word of God, and when reading, we read in haste. As if thirsting and hungering desperately for God’s words. Wanting to prepare ourselves for the next unexpected battle.

For this week alone, we’ve had unscheduled Bible Studies. After reading the Bible, I would give out a command “ok let’s do a quick Bible reading here” even if it would only take a few minutes a day. The Bible reading is not scheduled. Its not fixed. Its only done by the moment I’m struck with what I’m reading from the Bible. Immediately I’d run out from where I’m sitting, “ok let’s gather together and let’s pray” or “let’s gather together, I don’t care what you’re doing, let’s read the Word of God.” I pray that we’d do this in a habitual manner.
