Blogging Truths in a Deceptive World

Debunking Bo Sanchez

We have seen them. It’s all around us. It’s on TV. It’s on billboards. It’s in the movies. It’s in the magazines. It’s practically everywhere. It’s the comfort zone. It is what society teaches us. Self-esteem. Be rich. Be healthy. Be beautiful. It is the implementation of worldly principles. It is the fuel that Satan throws to liven up the fire-You will become like God (Gen 3:5). It is what everybody is buying. This is entertainment, ladies and gentlemen. And this is what everybody wants.

Bible teaching is boring, let alone studying. Show me the way to “true” success. We’re experiencing economic crisis, I need to get rich earlier. I want to live longer. I want to be good-looking. I want to live a decent life. But having all these demands can be crazy. Unless of course I’m a Christian. Okay, let’s add this to the list: I want people to think of me as a Christian as well.

The Bible is clear about its prophecy that in the last days people will turn away from the Truth:

“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions” 2 Tim 4:3

Now we wouldn’t want to appear selfish, now do we? We must paint a picture of a Christian image that would make our motives more justifiable. And that is why people love to listen to Bo Sanchez. bo sanchez pictureBo Sanchez is a motivational speaker pretending to be a Christian. A typical wolf in sheep’s clothing. And worse of all, people think he is actually from God. There are 3 major principles the so-called Preacher In Blue Jeans advocate and based on these principles, I can prove that Bo Sanchez is a false teacher:
1) I teach You to Feel Good About Yourself, You’re Special.
2) I Teach You To Be Wealthy, God Wants You to be Wealthy.
3) I Do Not Teach the Word of God, I Teach Practical Things.

Now, let us deal with them one by one.

1) I teach You to Feel Good About Yourself, You’re Special.
You’re special. You deserve better. The first promise of Satan ever recorded in the Bible was the promise made to Eve:

“…you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:5

Satan is showing Eve that she will become special because she deserves better. Same principle was applied when Satan tempted Jesus to eat since He was hungry and He probably deserved to eat after all, He is the Son of God (Matthew 4:3). But Jesus overcame all 3 temptations while Adam and Eve fell on the first trial. But the thing I want to emphasize here is the principle that Satan wants us to feel we deserve better. That we are special. Such things are in total disagreement with what scripture says:

“There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.” Ecclesiastes 7:20

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” Proverbs 14:12

“There is no one righteous, not even one.” Romans 3:10

We are wretched sinners that’s what we all are! All our righteous acts combined are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). And filthy rags is also considered as sanitary napkins. Imagine all our righteous acts combined are not only not good enough but they’re like sanitary napkins. Not only is it worthless, it’s disgusting. This is what the scripture teaches as opposed to what Satan teaches.

Do you know why Satan wants us to feel special about ourselves? Because when we feel special about ourselves we will never turn to Christ for repentance of sins and thus be saved. Christ says that the reason He came in this world is to call the sinners and not the righteous. So how can people approach Christ for salvation if they think they’re righteous or special? There must be that sense of guilt that we have offended an Holy God. Without which we can never turn to Christ. That is why the Greek word for “evangelize” is literally translated as “good news” How can there be “good news” if there’s no “bad news” in the first place? And that “bad news” is that we are all destined for hell. That is why we are so desperately seeking for the “good news” for us to be saved.

Jesus’ teaching on the beatitudes is this: “blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven” (Matthew 5:3). Beloved, we cannot approach God for mercy if we think we are special. Why else would we? And there’s no other way to approach God for salvation than to have a broken spirit and a contrite heart. To realize that our righteous acts are but filthy rags. That is the essence of the beatitude attitude: poor in spirit-for they’re the ones who can enter into heaven.

2) I Teach You To Be Wealthy, God Wants You to be Wealthy.
If God wants us to be wealthy, why did Jesus say to the rich young ruler “sell all your things and give to the poor. then follow me.” (Matthew 19:16-29)? Jesus wanted us to have a heart that is ready to let go of all possessions. To consider that God owns all my assets and even my life. Don’t you know that the love of money is the root of all evil?

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. ” 1 Timothy 6:10

“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ ” Hebrews 13:5

God wants us to depend solely on Him and not on our wealth. This is the sin that David had when he counted the number of his horses and men since he thinks they are measurement of his strengths. And because of this God punished David for this sin.

Paul warns Timothy about people who has desire to be rich:

“But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. ” 1 Timothy 6:10

There’s nothing wrong about getting rich. But twisting the message of the Bible saying that God wants us to be wealthy is wrong. Because not all can afford to be wealthy. Not all have the same spiritual maturity level to withstand the temptations of love of money. But what the Bible says to everyone is surely this: God wants us to depend solely on Him.

3) I Do Not Teach the Word of God, I Teach Practical Things.
These type of false teachers deceive more and more people by telling them stories from experience making the impression that the Bible is out-dated. They give out a faulty message that gives more importance on human experience rather than the very Word of God. Yes, these false teachers label themselves “Christians” when they do not even know that a true Christian can only have righteousness by reading and living the Word of God.

In Philippians, Paul teaches us that our love must be abounding in knowledge and not in affection.

“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,” Phil 1:9

Because it is in that growing of knowledge can we make discernment of which is excellent and which is not.

“so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,” Phil 1:10

so without knowledge, how can one discern which is excellent? How can the followers of Bo Sanchez discern whether what he teaches is Biblical or not if they don’t grow in the knowledge of scripture (Phil 1:9)? And how can they produce fruits of righteousness? Because it is in knowledge that we may be filled with the fruit of righteousness:

“filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” Phil 1:11

Jesus said that the Word of God is food to one’s soul (Matthew 4:4). And without food, how can one grow? They cannot grow but they will remain dead. And dead people don’t feel they’re dead. They don’t even know it. Only by the Word of God can they know these things as we have seen in the earlier exhortations of Paul.

Conclusion
Now with all that said, if you put all Bo Sanchez’s principles together you can clearly see the very same principle of this world that John warned us about:

“because all that which is in the world: the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” 1 John 2:16

Now let us list down the principles of Bo Sanchez’s teachings:
1) I teach You to Feel Good About Yourself, You’re Special.
2) I Teach You To Be Wealthy, God Wants You to be Wealthy.
3) I Do Not Teach the Word of God, I Teach Practical Things.

And then combine with the principles of this world that John commanded us not to love:
1) I teach You to Feel Good About Yourself, You’re Special – “the lust of the flesh”
2) I Teach You To Be Wealthy, God Wants You to be Wealthy – “the lust of the eyes”
3) I Do Not Teach the Word of God, I Teach Practical Things – “pride of life”

If they fit in the principles of this world, then it is clear that we see that Bo Sanchez’s teaching is not of the God of the Bible but it is of the world. And John gave a clear command right before that verse in verse 15:

“Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, ” 1 John 2:15

Beloved, Bo Sanchez is clearly a false teacher and is leading more and more people to the principles of this world. People do not realize that they are already being sucked in to the depths of the love of this world, which eventually lead them farther from God.
