Personality Development 101

Warren and I need re-education badly. Christian Personality Development 101.
We realized over the past days that we have become ticking time bombs always ready to explode at people, our words sting, our actions are rough, we are a perfect bashing duo. Reading our past blog entries, I realize how much we need to grow still, I can’t help but be ashamed of myself at how many people I have belittled with my writings, at how many people I have shut out and how proud I was to have met dagger for dagger in my young, short Christian walk. Shame. Shame. Shame.
I remember my blog entry regarding atheism, how it has offended a couple of people and how, in my roughness, I failed to minister to them as I should have. In fact, I was just as arrogant as the person that fueled me to write that post! And then there is that article about me reacting to Warren’s family’s persistence to convince him to attend and sponsor infant baptism, which eventually also led to another angrier post about my own brother in law. Of late, I have also offended several with my open letter to Bo Sanchez. These and not to mention the many other individuals that came up to me, to us, and instead of reaching out to them, we sent them away with our actions – our roughness, our temperament, our outbursts and impatience. While the doctrine that we stand for is sound and our theology is correct, we are however being pharisaical in our imitation of Christ. How sad, isn’t it?
Our move to the new church has made us see this. Now, we are off again to a new phase in our Christian walk and we welcome it with eager, hopeful hearts. We can only thank the Lord for the many ways He has moved in our lives to make us grow in Him and truly, we are works in progress. We celebrate each day at how God is constantly working us out, how He never stops from drawing us nearer to Him and how He never fails to educate us through the people that He sends our way. We probably still have a long way to go, I don’t know, but for now I am quite content and happy to just stop for a while and “take a good look in the mirror for a much-needed touch-up”.
Personality Development 101: Lesson 1
“Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands. 1Peter 3:1-5″
