To be a Sunday School Teacher

A few days ago I was invited to teach Sunday School for a church in Betis (somewhere in the more suburban area) this coming Sunday. Doc, being my discipler, endorsed me to his close buddy that is in need of leaders for their church in Betis. The church in Betis is a daughter church that had a strong pentecostal historical background for more than 20yrs but has been reformed since 5yrs now. Currently the church’s pastor is taking a forced vacation leave due to his health. Leaving no disciples behind, the church is struggling as to who will rise up to succeed the ailing pastor. I really don’t know what God has in store for us, but I’m willing to teach in their Sunday Schools until God knows when. But my initial intent is to better hone my preaching skills there and treat it as my training ground. The only drawback for me is I need to give up the Sunday evening services wherein Doc is preaching. Because the Sunday School in Betis is done in the afternoon and after that there’d be a service wherein it is ethical for me to attend. My hopes are still to minister to CBC. But it is not impossible if God would put us somewhere else. We don’t know.
I’ve already made my outline for this Sunday’s lesson and will be discussing on the Matthew 13 series again. But this time I’ve overhauled my notes and applied the new principles I learned from Bryan Chapell’s Christ Centered Preaching approach.
This will be my first time to be a Sunday School teacher ever and it is my prayer that I would preach nothing but Christ.
