Considering Adoption to Raise a Child for God

Written by Warren |Posted on July 7, 2009 | Comments

When we see some kids growing up, we become more thankful to God. We wanted to take advantage of our incapability to bear children and put our services to God. As the Lord has been gracious to us by making us grow, we realized that we are falling in love with the ministry. And having kids would serve as an effective distraction to the ministry.

Last night Hazel and I agreed that we push thru registering for adopting a child. And all we could think of is adopting a child and raise him up for the glory of God. Before we would think of considering the option of adoption because we wanted to have kids for ourselves. But now we wanted to raise kids for God.

I remember a pastor friend from Taft, Manila who was literally running around the streets while he was still very young. He was met and picked up by a missionary, an American woman, to be adopted. The missionary raised him up and now he becomes a pastor of a baptist Church in Manila. This testimony also inspired Hazel and I to pursue adoption and if the Lord wills it, we’d be able to raise the adopted child for the glory of God.

Right now we have a daughter in the faith, our helper, Emma. And it feels a little weird to consider her family (perhaps even more because she becomes our spiritual family) because I’m used to have certain discrimination among the household helpers or maids. But since she was saved by the Lord, I find no reason why I should not rejoice with her. This week has been the second week to do daily morning devotions with Hazel and Emma. Together as a family we strive to understand love of God for us and worship Him in our home. Good thing I have lots of books lying around the house for her to read and grow in the Lord as well. She has been an encouragement to Hazel and I and has contributed to our decision in adopting a child for God.

Hazel’s discover of her lost mom also made us realize God’s gracious acts towards her. We saw how God protected Hazel from her biological mom and raised her up normally with her foster family. Had she not been moved to her foster family, she would have been abused by her biological mom for sure. This became an encouragement to us and made us realize that God did not only owned us when we professed faith but even before we were born. We saw that our lives were planned and directed by God and we see no reason why we should persist on self-glorification and resist His divine purpose for our lives.

Lord, may we submit to your will even when we think we do. May we love you more even when we think we do. May we consider you as our Lord and Saviour even if we think we do. Our hearts may deceive us. But Your words are not deceit. We thank you for your love and mercy towards us. Amen.
