The Gospel is for Sinners

Many people think that the gospel is for non-believers only. Meaning, Christians who already professed faith in Christ don’t need to hear it anymore. This is wrong. Jesus said “I have come to call not the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Note that He did not say that He calls the non-believers. Nor is Scripture saying that Christians won’t be able to sin anymore. In fact the apostle Paul says “when I would do good, sin is there with me” (Romans 7:21). And as a Christian, it will be normal to want to do good because the Spirit is in him. Therefore, sin will always co-exist with the Spirit, much like Paul says that there is conflict within the Christian (Romans 7:22-23).
So all Christians, as well as non-believers, are sinners. If we are sinners, then Christ comes to call us (both Christians and non-believers) to repentance. Therefore, the Gospel is for everyone. That is why in every Church, preaching must include sin, repentance, and Christ. Remove one of them, the Gospel becomes incomplete. Remove one of them, we end up following a set of to do lists instead of being in awe of what Christ has already done for us. Thus we end up worshiping ourselves because of our “accomplishments” rather than Christ who saved us.
“Those who have ears to hear, let them hear.”
